Bonsai Robotics is building vision-based automation retrofit systems for off-road equipment. Its initial target market is orchard equipment, where high labor costs and labor shortages for seasonal workers are an acute problem for farmers. Bonsai plans to take an asset-light approach by building software on top of off-the-shelf hardware that can be sold directly to OEMs and retrofit into existing equipment. The first product, Visionsteer, is a vision-based autosteer retrofit kit for current vehicles. After orchard, they plan to expand to other markets such as vineyards, specialty crops, airports, mining, construction, and defense.
