Xtelligent has developed a unique controls system for traffic signals that integrates a range of sensor data to adaptively control signal timing in order to optimize traffic flow using machine learning. Traffic in the US was responsible for ~3.1B gallons of gas wasted in 2015, equivalent to 25M tons of CO2 emitted. By reducing traffic congestion via smarter traffic lights, Xtelligent promises to improve transportation efficiency by 20%- 50% in areas with signalized intersections. It has developed a low-touch solution for upgrading intersections without major upgrades to hardware or infrastructure, while providing municipalities with increased visibility into their system status via dashboards previously only available to very large cities.
